Im pleased to announce that release number 001 has hit the light of the day.

the links will be posted as soon as possible

I’ve tried to make it bug free as possible but here are some things you should have in consideration before using the editor:

  • You can use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of the map , I think this was an undocumented feature so I’m posting this here
  • The editor is not aware of changes , so when the user exits the application , the editor will close immediately without asking the user to save the work first.
  • The editor could crash if the user selects a tileset texture that is not divisible by 32 (width & height).
  • Scrollbars are no longer working, to move the camera press the right mouse button and drag along.

So save your work often and use textures divisible by 32

All these features will be fixed in version 002

Please send any feedback to xnafantasy at gmail dot com

EDIT: My brother found some nasty bugs hidden within this release, but dont be afraid here version 001.1 which fixes these serious bugs

Link Removed – Please download the latest build instead

DONT FORGET TO send any bugs you notice to

Happy map making

  1. Really cool. I’m on vacation right now so I will not be able to test it until next week, but I’m really looking forward to it. Keep up the good work!

  2. Hehe, thing is you probally forgot some files because version 001.1 wont open, crashes instantly..

  3. yup, 001.1 crashes on statup here too.

An unhandled exception of type ‘System.IO.FileNotFoundException’ occurred in XNA Map Editor.exe

Additional information: Could not load file or assembly ‘Microsoft.Xna.Framework, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=6d5c3888ef60e27d’ or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

im on vista 64, so it might be looking for a 64 bit version of xna2… which dosnt exist. did you make sure you compiled it strictly in x86 32bit mode?

  4. You need to install the XNA framework redistributable 2.0 for this to work

Tim error message is clearly pointing that

  5. Seems like a neat editor, but it’s pretty hard to test it without any textures.. Any way I can get some of yours ? 😛

    – Soul

  6. Looks very nice Evilnando!

Soul, you can grab Tilesets from this site

  7. You should allow the user to set the size of the grid on the tileset as well! 🙂
The grid was bigger than the offset on my tiles so I couldn’t use them.

    Very nice though!

  8. Yeah I wish I could implement that feature, right now that is too much work to do , so Im taking note of this request and I hope I can implement this feature sometime in the near future

  9. Felicitaciones por el duro trabajo y los excelentes resultados.

  10. GRACIAS!!!!! 🙂 🙂
